Legality of teenaged hentai in the USA

I know this is the worst place to ask for legal counsel and I know a lot of people here have no problem with it, but I've been thinking about it for some. What are the laws in the USA concerning characters in hentai that arent 18 or older. I'm not taking about real people or depictions of them, that's sick imo and I've never even tried to find such images. I'm talking about completely fictional characters based of cartoons and games. On one hand I've read how drawings are completely illegal and will be treated as the real thing. On the other hand I've read how people weren't prosecuted for owning such images because they're protected under free speech. These contradictions are confusing. Some countries (like many in Europe) completely outlaw them. A few (like Japan) give them a pass.

The majority of my searches are of adult cartoons. For example one piece, naruto, fairy tail and so on. Thanks to timeskips they're either 18 or well above that age. But there are some characters that arent 18 yet like the many in boku no hero academia. I hope there's a timeskip so they get a pass. IMO although it seems sick at a glance from someone who has never tried looking, but it's a victimless "offense" and there's no evidence suggesting that it contributes to any crime. For example, japan. They allow it and have some of the lowest crime rates on the planet. I started viewing this content at a young age, but never got tired of it. I'm thinking about quiting altogether. Jail, embarrassing family, having difficulty finding a employment and a place to stay aint worth it, but I'm kinda addicted.

I avoid shotacon, lolicon and definitely toddlercon like the f'ing plague so dont even worry about that minus milf & shota pics. I put myself into the shoes of the shota, but I only really care for the milf. I might be a furry sadly thanks to Spyro and Pokemon.

Thoughts?

As far as federal laws in the US are concerned; as long as it's not photo-realistic or traced from an image of an identifiable minor, it's fine. States may be different but for the most part it's not a problem unless you have real CP.

That's what I've heard. Any idea what states are okay and which arent? I have a feeling liberal states give them a pass while many conservative states wont, but I cant be too sure.

This is no different than the loli thread we had. All states technically allow it, as the US Supreme Court ruled it legal, but some may have laws that don't allow it. Those are the states you will have to fight and take back to the State's Supreme Court, which is costly, and will end the debate in that state about the legality of such content.

I personally believe this should be perfectly legal. It's just fictional, non-existent characters. No real life person is being affected.
Besides, it can be beneficial. It can stop certain people from executing their fantasies irl.

Imo, as long as the character depicted isn't a real underage person or a slightly different depiction of them, and no one is getting affected irl in general, it should be perfectly fine.
