He was born on July 13, 1942 and started his acting career in minor roles in various films, making more income as a carpenter. His career path radically changed after he met and befriended George Lucas while working on the 1973 film American Graffiti. Lucas went on to cast him as Han Solo in the original Star_Wars, and later as Indiana Jones to the Indiana_Jones franchise. Thanks to the latter and the success of many subsequent films, Ford was able to become the most iconic and successful actor out of the Star Wars cast, becoming one of Hollywood's most bankable leading men. By 2016, the box office grosses of his films reached 6 billion dollars worldwide. In his later years, he would often reprise his most iconic roles in sequels produced decades after their predecessors.
He frequently plays charismatic everyman heroes in action and thriller films. He often will try to do as many of his stunts as he is allowed to do and is known for occasionally doing some method acting to make his performances more believable such as refusing to to fix his leg after injuring it for The Fugitive in order to make his character seem more vulnerable. In contrast to the characters he often plays, he is noted to be rather introverted in person, leading to notoriously awkward interviews. He took up acting as a teenager specifically to overcome his shyness. Outside of acting and carpentry he is known as a trained pilot.
He coincidentally has the same name as a silent film actor and in his earlier films he is credited as Harrison J. Ford. However, this Ford eventually surpassed his predecessor in popular consciousness.
He has been married three times. His second wife, Melissa Matheson, was a screenwriter. His third wife is the considerably than him younger actress Calista Flockhart.
